Fuel quality disputes, claims and a new ISO standard

As marine fuel experts, Brookes Bell are involved in bunker quality disputes from the initial incident right up to giving expert evidence at arbitrations and high court.  In this presentation we will provide an overview of what are the current trends in quality claims that we see, how they impact vessel operations and what changes ISO 8217:2024 will bring to the table in terms of claims and protection for the end user.

Michael Banning is a Managing Marine Engineer Fuel Specialist with extensive experience in the marine industry, including roles in the Royal Navy and Merchant fleets. ​He holds professional qualifications as a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Marine Engineer, along with an M.Sc. ​ in Engineering and Management. ​He is actively involved in ISO working groups related to marine fuels and has contributed to setting industry standards for fuel quality and CO2 reduction targets. ​Michael is a member of various technical committees and professional organizations such as the British Standards Institute, International Organization for Standardization, and Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.
