Tackling the Challenges of Global Maritime Industry: Innovative (Patented) Technologies for On-Board Analysis of Fuel, Lube and Hydraulic Oil, and Cooling Water.

On-board analysis of operating materials has a long tradition in the maritime sector.

Test devices and test procedures are continually being developed.

Increased engine power density, changed operating regimes of the engines (e.g. partial load),

new types of fuel, but also new environmental regulations make it necessary to adapt the on-board test devices and test kits to these requirements.

 The further development of on-board analysis and test equipment is shown using various examples.

A new patent-pending on-board engine coolant analysis device – which requires no chemicals at all – is presented and explained.

Regarding a few words about the speaker…

Dr. Frank Bernier, Customer Relations Manager of the MARTECHNIC GmbH, started his occupational development from scratch as AB seaman on several trading vessels.

After graduating as Technical Marine Engineer at the Maritime University Warnemünde / Wustrow he worked as scientific employee at the same University with main focus on “analysis of wear and tear of Diesel engines under the influence of different operating conditions and different operating fluid conditions” – successfully finished as Doctor-Engineer (PhD).

Before he started as Project Manager in the Sales Department (Marine Division) of MAN B&W Diesel AG he was employed in a German shipping company as Technical Engineer.

Dr. Bernier was one of the Sales Directors for Marketing & Sales Large Propulsion, Marine Division of MAN B&W Diesel AG before he was asked to work as CEO of the company Dr. E. Horn GmbH and Bahrmann GmbH responsible for Sales, Service and R & D.

From January 2014 he worked in various companies in the field of fuel, lube and hydraulic oil management until he mid-2017 made his considerable experiences available to the MARTECHNIC team to develop and sell condition monitoring systems especially for the marine industry.
